Most of us have been taught to clean our skin with cleansers and soap (soap is a huge no-no by the way) and I as well love the feeling of bubbles and foam lathering up my face and body. I used to think if I didn’t use foamy cleansers I wouldn’t feel “clean” enough. I want to point out that there are a lot of cleansers that are great for certain types of skin and I will always use a cleanser in conjunction with the method I am about to dish on. I’d like to introduce a new method of cleansing your skin which will help you attain the best skin you’ve probably ever had… Oil Cleansing. Whether your skin concerns are acne, aging or just wanting to achieve better skin health, oil cleansing will work for most if not all skin types. I know washing your face with oil sounds very counter-intuitive, but trust me its exactly what you want to do. In fact your skin is craving it! To break it down for you, its quite simple: Oil attracts oil. When you lather your face with oil and work it into your skin, the good oil penetrates your pores to pull out excess oil, dirt, makeup and other impurities. Oil does all of this without stripping your skin of the moisture and oil that it needs in order to function healthily (yes your skin still needs some its own natural-made oil). Many cleansers and all soap will strip your skin of the moisture and hydration that it needs to feel good. If your skin is stripped of everything it needs the oil glands go into overdrive and start producing more oil. That and the combination of your skin naturally shedding skin is a disaster waiting to happen; breakouts, clogged pores and dull, lifeless looking skin.
Personally my skin care regimen includes cleansing my face and neck twice a day with a cleansing oil. I use a couple facial cleansers as well as oil cleansing, but not all of them at once. And many if not most times opt not to cleanse with a cleanser. My first experience with oil cleansing started in Esthetician school where I learned about the wonderful benefits of this little gem.
1. I started using Dermalogica’s Pre-Cleanse since that was a product line we used in class. I really love the smell of Pre-Cleanse and I’ve seen it work on countless skin types with success.
2. Next up is Julep’s Bare Face Cleansing Oil. I blogged a little bit about it here. I really am enjoying using this product. I was introduced to it through my Julep Maven August box!
3. This by far is my favorite cleansing Oil: Active Moisture Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil and Makeup remover by One Love Organics! I love this line because everything smells like heaven but also One Love is all Organic and Natural. I love knowing that its chock full of everything my skin needs and free from anything it doesn’t!
